[ARCHIVED] Mayor's Message - October 2022

2021-4-14 Pompton Lakes Mayor and Council-3 - Mayor Serra Use

I would like to thank everyone involved in making summer activities fun, safe and enjoyable for all our residents!

Summer Camp was successful and the campers experienced fun filled children activities and presentations.  National Night Out was well attended and provided residents with ways to stay healthy and safe along with free food, fire truck water spray and games.  Pompton Day was a great success and I thank the volunteers who organized the event and assisted during the day.  The event included the annual 5K Run, food and craft vendors as well as the dunk tank competition, the kayak boat race, wrestlers and the petting zoo.  Pompton Day would not be complete without the spectacular fireworks display.

I remind everyone school is in session to be alert when driving and I urge motorist to be mindful of children walking and bicycling to and from school. I thank our many crossing guards who are out there every day assuring the safety of our schoolchildren and pedestrians.    Obey the law and yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks.

Through grant funding, an All-Inclusive Artwork Picture Frame Statue has been installed at Lakeside Park to compliment the all-inclusive playground equipment.  Residents have enjoyed taking photos/selfies of themselves, friends and family.   The Trails Committee and volunteers continue to maintain the trails and those who wish to volunteer should refer to the website.  The Borough will be receiving and planting ten Red Bud trees through City Green grant funding.

October and November will be busy months as there are various town activities as follows; the Annual Town Wide Garage Sale scheduled for Saturday October 1, 2022 (with a rain date of Sunday, October 2, 2022) and is free to our residents (no permit necessary); the Chamber of Commerce Car Show is Sunday October 9, 2022; Fire Prevention Week begins on October 10, 2022; the Recreation Committee sponsors a Halloween Hunt and is scheduled for October 23, 2022 at the Tennis Courts at 7:00pm; Veteran’s Day Ceremony is scheduled for November 9, 2022 at Borough Hall and will begin at 6:30pm and all are welcome as we honor our Veterans; November 12, 2022 is the Free Rabies Clinic scheduled from 1:00pm through 3:00pm at the Fire House.

Some reminders -- leaf season begins this month and once a week garbage pickup is in effect starting October 13th.  Also, please abide by the regulations for the collection of recyclables and solid waste trash.  All trash should be in containers with tight secure lids that have the capacity of no more than 45 gallons nor weigh more than 60 pounds.

Until next time -- stay safe and enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday.
