Beginning August 16, 2021, Pompton Lakes police officers will begin wearing body worn cameras (see attached photos) on patrol. In addition to having in-car video cameras in their patrol vehicles, officers will be equipped with Axon 3 Body Cameras. It functions as a camera and audio recorder that will be utilized to collect video and audio evidence. The cameras will be worn for the accurate documentation of interactions between our officers and members of the public. The use of the cameras increases transparency and provides an opportunity to capture the good work our officers are doing on a routine basis. Additionally, this equipment will enable department supervisors and administrators to conduct periodic reviews of officer-citizen contacts, for quality control purposes and to assist in the investigation of citizen complaints. The officer’s use of the body worn cameras will follow the guidelines issued by the New Jersey Attorney General, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, and the policies set by the Pompton Lakes Police
