Traffic Bureau

The commander of the Traffic Division is: Lt. Michael Klepacky

The Traffic Bureau is responsible for handling the traffic issues in Pompton Lakes as well as the review of all motor vehicle crash reports that are completed daily by the patrol division.  The main goal of the Traffic Bureau is to help reduce the number of motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents and make the roadways safer.  Officers monitor potential problem areas by observing or utilizing radar and issue warnings or summonses for violations of vehicle and traffic laws.  The Traffic Bureau also handles establishing detour and traffic details for various functions in town throughout the year.  The Pompton Lakes Police Department maintains a mobile sign board to assist with traffic and speed limit reminders.  Several members of the Department are trained in crash reconstruction and are called to the scene of serious or fatal accidents to assist in the investigation.

The Traffic Bureau also handles the installation of child safety seats for families by certified child passenger safety seat technicians on staff.  The technician, Dawn Gosson has been certified by Safe Kids Worldwide.  All residents with children under 8 years old or children under 80 lbs. are encouraged to have their child passenger safety seat inspected.  National statistics reveal that 4 out of 5 of all child passenger safety seats are used improperly and could increase the chances that a child could suffer death or serious injury in the event of a motor vehicle crash.

The purpose of the program is to ensure that the seats are installed properly and to educate parents, grandparents and other caregivers as to the proper installation of a child safety seat as well as other issues regarding child passenger safety.  Please contact us at 973-835-0400 to schedule an appointment.
