As we head into December and the year comes to an end, I am pleased to celebrate our achievements. Many of our community activities, clinics and sporting events have resumed while continuing to adhering to COVID protocol. The Lidl food store successfully opened and has brought additional shoppers and activity to the shopping center. Schools have returned to in person session and students are no longer instructed remotely. Redevelopment projects continue to develop and move forward throughout the Town.
In the month of December, residents are invited to participate in town activities as follows: Holiday Stroll and Tree Lighting at 5:45pm sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce on Saturday December 4th; Breakfast with Santa from 8:30am-10:30am at the Elks Lodge sponsored by the Recreation Department on Saturday, December 11th and later in the day the Toys-for-Tots Train arrives at 1:05pm – 1:50pm at the Train Station. Residents may donate unwrapped toys at local businesses throughout Town. The Marines arrive on the train accompanied by Santa Clause as the community gathers to donate unwrapped toys.
In September, the Health Department began to offer flu shots by appointment to our residents. The COVID Booster vaccine was administered at no cost by the Health Department on November 12, 2021. I would remind residents our Borough Nurse is available at the Municipal Building on Mondays from 2:30pm through 4:30pm.
I would like to thank all those involved with the November 2, 2021 General Election. It was a long and busy day for our Municipal Clerk/Election Official and her staff as well as for the poll workers and the Police with assisting with the return of the supplies.
The Veteran’s Service held on November 10, 2021 was well attended and we salute our brave men and woman who have served and continue to serve our country. Many of our local Veterans attended and were recognized for their service by myself, along with Council, local dignitaries, first responders, local scouts, organizations, and the school band.
A Free Rabies Clinic was held on Saturday November 13, 2021 arranged by Animal Control and Dr. Cattiny. Residents are required to license their pets and the rabies vaccine must be current. All dogs and cats must be licensed by January 31st to avoid late fees/fines.
The Golden Agers Senior Group have begun to meet at the Community Center in Riverdale. This facility offers improved parking for the seniors and I thank the Mayor of Riverdale for allowing the seniors to meet at the Community Center. Refer to the Pompton Lakes Borough website for additional information about the Golden Agers, meeting times and how to join the club.
I am pleased to announce the Governing Body approved the formation of the Trails Committee. The Trails Committee was previously a subcommittee of the Open Space committee and members provided extensive volunteer hours. The trails are an extension of the various outdoor activities the Town offers for residents to experience and enjoy. I thank the volunteers for maintaining the trails over the years.
In closing, I wish everyone a joyous and safe Holiday Season!
